SUGAR CANE / 9oz. Wabash Stripe Work Coat

SUGAR CANE

SUGAR CANE

SUGAR CANE
Meaningfully named after “sugar cane,” this distinctly American-sounding brand was in fact Japan’s first postwar apparel manufacturer established for the U.S. market. Founded in 1965 to produce garments for the U.S. military, SUGAR CANE initially supplied clothing for personnel connected to American military bases. Following the end of the Vietnam War, the brand shifted its focus to the domestic market while continuing to uphold authentic American-style workwear, particularly denim, with craftsmanship rooted in genuine heritage traditions.

SUGAR CANE

SUGAR CANE

Reliable 9oz wabash fabric
The 9oz fabric offers a lightweight feel that can be worn like a shirt jacket, making it easy and comfortable for everyday use.

SUGAR CANE

The fabric features wabash stripes created through discharge printing. Said to be inspired by the flow of Indiana’s Wabash River, the pattern is designed to fade over time while retaining its distinctive dotted motif.

Unlike woven stripes created with dyed yarns, the pattern is expressed through tonal contrast rather than texture, resulting in a flatter surface and a stronger sense of unity with the indigo base.

SUGAR CANE

The reverse side of the fabric is scattered with printed brand logos, adding a hidden detail that reveals its authentic character the moment you take it off.

※Please note that color transfer may occur during the early stages of wear. Take care when wearing with white garments or against bare skin.

SUGAR CANE

Classic construction with refined detailing and durable stitching
The collar is designed with a traditional collar stand, creating a clean, structured neckline that looks refined even when worn open.

SUGAR CANE

The right chest features a flap pocket, while the left is equipped with a distinctive 3-in-1 asymmetrical pocket design.

SUGAR CANE

SUGAR CANE

The large lower pockets are reinforced for added durability and everyday practicality.

SUGAR CANE

An internal right chest pocket and triple-needle chain-stitched seams at the shoulders, sides, and armholes add durability while strengthening the coat’s authentic vintage character.

Every detail is thoughtfully constructed, allowing its toughness to become more apparent with continued wear.

SUGAR CANE

Inside the pocket, a union ticket label is placed—representing certified membership in labor unions, faithfully reproduced from vintage work shirts.

SUGAR CANE

A clean, versatile work silhouette for everyday styling
Rooted in classic store-brand workwear, the silhouette offers generous room while maintaining a clean, balanced shape. Wear it open for a relaxed look or buttoned up for a more traditional work coat style.

Easy to pair with denim or chinos, it also layers naturally under outerwear, making it a versatile everyday piece.
